New Paper on Digger Bees

Thor recently published a paper describing one of the largest digger bee sites ever discovered - a cliff containing over 130,000 nesting females!  These gentle, fascinating creatures have lost their ability to sting, defending themselves instead by mimicking the appearance of more aggressive bumblebees.  A full scientific account, co-authored with John Ascher of the National University of Singapore, can be found in The Pan-Pacific Entomologist.  In addition, Thor tells the story of discovering and studying these bees in a chapter of his new book, Buzz: The Nature and Necessity of Bees.
